Does the Voyced platform support: SRTP

Does the Voyced Hosted IPPBX support SRTP?

Yes, SRTP is supported by default.

Voyced supports SRTP in passthrough mode, which means:

  • Your devices (phones, PBX systems, softphones) handle the encryption and decryption

  • Our platform does not encode or decode the SRTP stream itself

  • We simply allow the encrypted media to pass through without interference

This setup ensures that encrypted audio can be used end-to-end, as long as both sides support it.

What is SRTP?

SRTP (Secure Real-Time Transport Protocol) is a secure version of RTP, the protocol used for audio in VoIP calls.

  • It adds encryption, message authentication, and integrity checking

  • It helps protect your calls from eavesdropping and denial-of-service (DoS) attacks

  • It works across both wired and wireless networks

  • It’s been part of VoIP security standards since 2004 (defined in RFC 3711 by the IETF)

SRTP was created by experts at Cisco and Ericsson to offer a scalable and efficient layer of protection for real-time voice traffic.

SRTP compatibility

To use SRTP successfully, all systems involved must support it. Be sure to check:

  • Your VoIP phones or adapters

  • Your softphone or PBX software

  • Any intermediate services in your call flow

If SRTP is enabled on one side but not supported on the other, the call may fail or fall back to unencrypted RTP.
