If your phone shows the wrong or a strange number when someone calls, it’s likely due to how your VoIP phone reads Caller ID data.
There are many VoIP systems out there, and not all follow the same standards perfectly — but the good news is that this is usually easy to fix.
How to fix it:
-
Log in to your VoIP phone or softphone settings
-
Find the setting for Caller ID Source
-
This is often under Advanced Settings
-
-
You’ll usually see a few options. You may need to test them to find the one that works best with your setup.
For Yealink phones:
We recommend choosing RPID-PAI_FROM as the Caller ID Source.
-
This setting usually shows the correct incoming number
-
If your phone supports it, it might also show the caller’s name
