What Caller ID will show on outbound calls?
By default, the Caller ID (CLI) shown when you make a call is the DID/telephone number assigned to that line.
There are three possible Caller ID options per account/DID:
1. The default: Show the same DID
-
This is the recommended and standard option
-
The Caller ID will display the exact number being used to make the call
-
This ensures maximum reliability and compatibility across countries and networks
2. Show another number from the same Voyced account
-
You can choose to display another DID in your account
-
This must be requested manually, it’s not a self-service option
To request a change:
-
Open a sales ticket titled: "Outbound Caller ID adjustment"
-
Clearly list:
-
Each DID to be changed
-
The new number to be shown for each one
-
This avoids any misunderstanding, and changes are usually completed within 1 working day, free of charge.
3. No Caller ID (anonymous)
We strongly advise against this option.
While technically possible in very specific cases:
-
It’s increasingly being rejected by carriers and countries worldwide
-
Some destinations block anonymous calls entirely
-
In some regions, this is illegal and may result in fines or blocked services
If you insist on using anonymous Caller ID:
-
You must provide a valid and documented reason
-
You accept full responsibility for any issues or costs
-
If you request help with failed calls, we’ll first require that a valid Caller ID is set
Abuse, spoofing, or misrepresentation will not be tolerated.
Additional Important Points
1. Anonymous calls are on the way out
-
Many operators have started banning or rejecting anonymous traffic
-
Some countries now block these calls at national level
-
Don’t risk service issues, always show a proper Caller ID where possible
2. Using a number not in your Voyced account?
In special cases, we may allow you to display a number you own that isn’t currently with us.
To do this, you must:
-
Provide proof of ownership, such as a recent phone bill showing your name/company and the number
-
Go through extra verification checks
-
Understand that this is only allowed on a case-by-case basis
3. Using a SIP Trunk or internal DIDs only?
If you don't have regular DIDs with us but still want to show a proper number on outbound calls:
-
Contact us to request Caller ID setup
-
You’ll need to prove ownership of the number you want to display
-
We’ll guide you through the verification process
4. European CLI filtering and surcharges
-
EU traffic is increasingly filtered by CLI rules
-
Calls with missing, non-EU, or incorrect CLI may be charged at higher rates
-
If we’re charged extra due to improper Caller ID usage, we’ll pass these charges on to you
Always use a valid, local, and accurate CLI when calling within or into Europe.
5. Forbidden: Voyced Internal DIDs as Caller ID
You may not, under any circumstances, display an internal DID or extension number as your Caller ID.
Doing so will lead to failed calls and may result in account restrictions.
Final word
If you want to change your Caller ID, or aren’t sure what’s allowed, contact us first.
We’ll make sure your setup is compliant, reliable, and won’t cause service issues or penalties.
